A complete commercial transformation for Thread & Toast

Six weeks. A full renovation. A completely new purpose.

When Thread & Toast needed to turn a former children’s play centre into a welcoming café, the project called for much more than a fresh coat of paint. The space needed to work differently, feel different and support everything from a busy kitchen to a relaxed morning coffee.

Summit Build took on the transformation, bringing together the building work, essential services and finishing details to create a space the café team could proudly call home.

Making room for a new vision

The first step was changing the layout. We knocked down walls to reshape the space, making room for the café’s seating, service counter and kitchen.

With the layout taking shape, we tackled the infrastructure behind it. Rewiring and new plumbing prepared the building for its new role, creating the foundations for a working café.

Commercial renovations demand attention to both what customers see and what happens behind the scenes. A beautiful interior matters, but so does a kitchen that works, a practical service area and the services needed to keep the business moving.

This project brought all those elements together.

Building the heart of the café

We built and fitted the kitchen, installing hygienic wall cladding to create a practical environment for food preparation. Alongside it, we constructed the café counter, giving the team a dedicated space to serve customers and a focal point for the finished interior.

These were central parts of the transformation. The kitchen needed to support the team’s daily work, while the counter needed to sit comfortably within the welcoming space being created around it.

From the working areas to the customer-facing finishes, every part had a job to do.

Bringing the space to life

Plastering, tiling, flooring and painting transformed the interior, replacing the feel of the former play centre with a fresh setting for Thread & Toast.

A new suspended ceiling completed the space overhead, while new bifold doors brought more light into the café and changed its connection with the outdoors. We also created two new bathrooms as part of the wider fit-out.

It was the combination of these changes that made the result so striking. The layout, surfaces, doors, counter and kitchen came together to turn a building with an entirely different purpose into a café full of warmth and character.

The full renovation was completed in just six weeks.

Delivering that amount of work in a short window meant keeping the project moving across multiple trades, with care going into the finish as well as the pace.

We loved helping bring Thread & Toast to life. Working alongside such a brilliant café team made the finished result even more rewarding: a space ready for their next chapter, built around their vision.
